Attaf primește o Delegație a Consiliului de Pace și Securitate al Uniunii Africane
Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, received this morning, September 14, 2026, a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council, led by the Ambassador of the Republic of Benin—whose country currently holds the Council's presidency for the month of September.
This visit takes place within the framework of the 10th edition of "Africa Amnesty Month," hosted by Algeria on September 14 and 15, 2026, under the theme: "Strengthening the 'Silencing the Guns' initiative and fostering sustainable peace through the exchange of expertise on small arms and light weapons control and demining operations."
On this occasion, Mr. Ahmed Attaf welcomed the Peace and Security Council delegation, reaffirming Algeria’s steadfast commitment to actively contributing to continental efforts aimed at establishing the foundations of peace, security, and stability across Africa.
In this context, the Minister emphasized the need to strengthen African Union mechanisms for conflict and crisis prevention and resolution by addressing their root causes. He advocated for a comprehensive, proactive approach that ensures the formulation of African solutions to African problems, free from foreign interventions that risk exacerbating tensions and fueling the arming of conflicting parties. For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Benin to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mr. Hervé Dadjedji Djokpe, speaking on behalf of the members of the Peace and Security Council, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to Algeria for hosting this important continental event. The event aims to foster values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence across Africa by encouraging the surrender of illegally held weapons and prioritizing dialogue and reconciliation over violence.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister wished the delegation members a pleasant stay in Algeria and expressed his hope for the success of the event, looking forward to tangible outcomes that contribute to curbing the proliferation of weapons and bolstering efforts to clear and permanently eliminate landmines left over from the colonial era across the African continent.
