Mr. Attaf receives Senegalese counterpart

This morning, at the Ministry's headquarters, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad of the sisterly Republic of Senegal, Mr. Cheikh Niang, who is on a working visit to Algeria.

On this occasion, the two ministers held a private meeting, followed by an expanded discussion session with the participation of members of the delegations of the two countries.

These talks allowed for a comprehensive assessment of the reality of Algerian-Senegalese relations, and anticipating prospects for their consolidation in all priority areas, especially hydrocarbons, energy, the pharmaceutical industry, finance, higher education and scientific research, and vocational training, as well as enhancing intra-trade exchanges by taking advantage of the advantages provided by the African Free Trade Area.

In this regard, the two parties agreed on the need to reactivate bilateral cooperation mechanisms to give new momentum to these relations, especially through preparations to hold the next session of the Algerian-Senegalese Joint Committee before the end of this year, and to revive the Algerian-Senegalese Business Council.

This meeting also constituted an important opportunity to exchange views and perceptions regarding current regional and international issues of common interest, most notably the situation in the Sahel region.
