Mr. Chaib Holds a Videoconference Meeting with Members of the Algerian Community in Central and South America

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, held a meeting via videoconference with a group of members and key figures of the national community—representing various segments and backgrounds—residing in Central and South American countries. The meeting was attended by the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the region.

This meeting is part of a series of periodic discussions held by the Secretary of State with members of the national community residing in various parts of the world to assess their situations and the challenges they face, as well as to listen to their proposals and aspirations.

The meeting held particular significance given the region's unique characteristics, its vast geographical expanse, and the considerable distance between the locations of Algerian citizens and diplomatic and consular missions. Discussions focused specifically on consular and administrative services—exploring ways to improve them and facilitate access—alongside addressing various concerns and proposals raised by the participants.

In addressing the issues raised, the Secretary of State emphasized that improving the care and support provided to Algerian citizens abroad remains central to the efforts of public authorities, particularly through the simplification of procedures and the continued modernization and digitization of consular services to bring them closer to those who rely on them. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the ties between members of the diaspora and their homeland, and of enhancing their participation in the various initiatives and programs directed at them. This enables the country to benefit from the diversity of their skills and expertise—as well as the significant human capital they represent—in serving the nation and contributing to its development.
